A to Z Challenge: T is for Tea

"You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me."  --C.S. Lewis

No cozy reading day would be complete without a cup of hot tea by my side.  Bonus points if it's in a tea cup, the day is gloomy, and it's chilly enough to warrant fuzzy socks and a blanket.  Even without those things, however, tea is the fuel of my imagination.

I don't know for sure when it started, but somehow I never started the coffee-ever-morning routine - instead, I drink tea. Without it, I feel a little lost, maybe even a bit more grumpy than I usually would be.  In the afternoon, I drink more tea. Always black tea, always with cream and sugar, usually in a tea cup.

Why?

Tea speaks comfort to me. It soothes the aches of the day, uplifts my mood, invigorates my imagination, and warms a part of me that didn't even know it was cold.  In short, tea isn't just a physical action - it's a mental, emotional, and even spiritual unwind.

I think that's why it goes hand in hand with books.  I try to carve out a special quiet time each day in which I can simply sit and read to my heart's content. I love books and I adore reading. Adding tea to the mix creates a haven in which I can concentrate on something outside of myself and my day.

Do you have a special component to your daily unwind?

P.S. Tea drinkers each have their favorite tea.  Mine is Twinings Irish Breakfast. Any of the Twinings brand is superior but that one is my ultimate wind-down component. If you're not a tea drinker but would like to be, I'd point you in that direction.

  1. Excellent word for the letter T! I prefer tea over coffee, and love to indulge in a Green Tea Frappuccino at Starbucks once in a while. :)

So nice to meet you! Thanks for stopping by my blog and following!

    Have a great week,

  3. I too love tea- it helps me unwind. I like drinking green tea, rooibos, and peppermint tea. When I have tea and sandwiches with friends, it puts me in that lah-dee-dah mood.

    1. I like social tea, as well, with its capacity for conversation and connection but tea by myself will probably always be my favorite. It's my brain's signal that all is right with the world. :)

  4. My latest tea rage is Stash Fusion Breakfast Green And Black Tea - a perfect breakfast blend of the green and black. Love it! Second favorite is Tazo Zen tea, great for relaxing.

  5. I love tea. A good cuppa in the morning is what helps me start the day. Nice and strong (Yorkshire tea is my fave) with two sugars and a nice little drop of milk. Perfect! I also like herbal teas, peppermint and green tea being my favourite :)

I love that quote by C.S Lewis!

  8. I do wish I liked to drink tea or coffee, but I don't like to drink hot things. Not even hot chocolate! My unwind involves a good book, a cozy blanket, and cookies.

Thanks for stopping by my site. New follower! :)

    1. It's great, though, that you have your unwind time, regardless of hot drinks. I have a friend who shares "tea" with her little daughter every afternoon by filling her cup with water. Whatever works!

  12. I like the Fairtrade TeaDirect. Although I do like two cups of CafeDirect in the morning. I sometimes have Green tea with mint for something lighter or if my tummy's playing up for some reason generally to do with over-indulgence. Sigh.

    1. High teas are lovely. I used to work at a tea house that served high teas in period costume. The parties were so much fun.

  16. I love tea, it's about all I drink! I'm sure I have far more than I should. I learnt the habit from my parents, who were always major tea drinkers, so now me, my brother and my sister all drink lots of tea too. Great post :)

  17. What a perfect quote to begin with. Lewis is wonderfully quotable. I love books. I love tea. Add knitting to the list and I am a happy woman.

I've never tried knitting but I've heard that it's incredibly relaxing.

  18. I love my "rooibos" tea - it has so many health benefits... but I need to get out of the obssessive coffee-drinking habit that I've acquired over the past two years...
I also enjoy a cup of honey and ginger tea now and again.

  19. I'm a tea drinker. Usually drink tea from the Tea Source or The Republic of Tea. I'll have to check out this recommendation.

  21. I'm like you in that I never got into the whole "cup of joe a day" thing but I just started growing a taste for tea -- cold teas. I personally like fruity ones like Bigelow's pomegranate tea. Hopefully I'll be able to step it up to warm teas.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. :)

  22. I've been big on Yogi brand tea lately. I've been trying the Detox blend. The original flavor (with dandelion or something) is alright with honey added to it. The berry one is great on that first sip, but then has a little after-tingle at the back of my mouth, which I'm not crazy about. My cousin just found a peach flavor, which I'll likely try tonight before bed.

Scent wise, Celestial Seasonings Sleepy Time Vanilla tea is ... just wow. I want my house to smell like that. The spouse says to just throw some sugar cookies in the oven, but I don't know if that'd do it.

Stopping by from the #atozchallenge !

I love visitors and I love comments! Please, leave one or many (visitors or comments, it's all good). Just remember to play nice with others. Also, don't spam. I'll have to dump you in the trash compactor if you do. And then the dianoga will eat you. Ask yourself: is it worth getting eaten?
