It is amazing what a break can do for mind and body. While I had a schedule planned full of "useful" things I would do while away from my work, my husband had other ideas, for which I am so grateful.
We visited friends and family in San Diego for a few days, attended the annual LAN gaming party that Anthony and his friends have been hosting for years, ate our favorite foods, came home to a new MMO (massively multiplayer online for those unfamiliar with gaming terminology) which we played extensively, and generally ignored all outside news and Internet influences.
The result is that I have nothing to show for my time away...except a peace and relaxation that I haven't felt in months, if not years. I also had more than plenty of time to think and came to quite a few revelations about myself, my work, and more. So much more, in fact, that one post isn't enough to detail it all - it will probably end up coming out little by little over the coming weeks.
So, in the meantime, let's review my goals from August:
Personal
- Workout 3 times a week- Take a walk every other day
- Write at least 1 letter
-
-
- Organize/clean out junk diguised as memorabilia that's just taking up space
- Take August family photos
-
Business
- Submit 2-3 short stories for publication- Begin editing current NIP (novel in progress)
- Launch business website
- Brainstorm venues to find new clients
- Organize business folders for this year
-
I fell far short of completing my list, unfortunately, though I don't feel as bad about it as I have in the past. I know a large part of it was getting away for two weeks. Because of that, this month's goals are similar to last month's:
Personal
- Workout 5 times a week- Take a walk every other day
- Write at least 2 letters
- Catch up with 2 out-of-state friends
- Finish reading Gardens of the Moon
- Organize paperwork and personal files
- Take September family photos
Business
- Submit 3 short stories for publication- Begin editing current NIP (novel in progress)
- Launch business website
- Brainstorm venues to find new clients
- Organize business folders for this year
- Complete current long-term assignments
- Organize social media schedule
- Revamp new look for Visions of Other Worlds
All in all, it's good to be back but I'm going to miss my snug little isolated corner.
Welcome back! So glad you had a chance to recoup and rest up. Your goal list has inspired me to make up one of my own. Considering how chaotic my schedule is at the moment, it might be a good idea to know what I hope to do with my available time.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm so glad you've been inspired - being able to see what all you need to do on paper goes a long way to seeing it become possible. :)
DeleteWelcome back! Sounds like you had a great vacation! I would like to reshoot photos of all the stuff I made and try and start finding craft shows to sell my stuff at.
ReplyDeleteThanks, JoJo! Sounds you have a lot ahead of you, but I wish you all the best in getting it all done this month.
DeleteIt's great to switch off and get away from every day stuff. Glad you had a lovely time.
ReplyDeleteI had the best of times, Suzanne - thanks for visiting!
DeleteHm, ...these lists look useful. ...or depressing.
ReplyDeleteThey could be, if looked at in that way. I list them on here to help others who might be worried about not getting things done and also to give myself a clear vision of what I'm aiming for. There's always tomorrow if today's work doesn't get done.
